NMSS Initiates Extensive Awareness Campaign for World MS Day Across the UAE

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In celebration of World MS Day 2026, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) has kicked off a nationwide awareness initiative throughout the UAE. This campaign is designed to deepen public understanding and support for those living with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Now in its fourth year, this campaign will be implemented in healthcare facilities, workplaces, and community spaces across the country. Its goal is to raise awareness about MS, encourage discussions regarding the condition, and strengthen support networks.

The activities for this year are centered on the global theme, "My MS Diagnosis: Navigating MS Together," which sheds light on the experiences individuals confront after receiving an MS diagnosis. The campaign ensures accurate information and practical resources are available, helping individuals navigate their MS journey confidently.

With a strong focus on educational programs and public engagement, NMSS aims to dispel misconceptions surrounding MS while promoting the importance of early support and accessible healthcare.

Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Vice Chair of NMSS, emphasized that World MS Day serves as a vital reminder that no one should face the challenges of MS alone.

"Living with MS is a collective journey nurtured by the support of families, caregivers, healthcare experts, and communities. As we commemorate World MS Day for the fourth time in the UAE, our commitment to spreading awareness and fostering understanding is unwavering," she stated.

Dr. Al Kaabi further noted that progress in this field can only be achieved through combined efforts. This nationwide campaign unites healthcare institutions and community organizations to enhance access to critical information and support.

Among the new resources introduced is the "Talking About Your MS Diagnosis Guide," which provides individuals tools to discuss their diagnosis with confidence among friends, family, and colleagues.

Additionally, NMSS has launched the "Empowering Carers Guide," supplying caregivers with practical resources to assist individuals managing MS and other long-term conditions.

A dedicated Human Resources Guide has also been developed to aid employers in creating inclusive workplaces, offering insights on accessibility and employee support practices that benefit those living with MS.

The workplace guide has received endorsement from The Butterfly organization, known for its advocacy in accessibility. While primarily targeted at MS, these guides are valuable for anyone managing chronic health issues.

The campaign also encompasses a broad outreach initiative spanning over 30 healthcare facilities nationwide, aimed at increasing awareness of MS-related support services and ensuring easy access to reliable information.

As part of NMSS's educational strategy, a public webinar is set for June 5, 2026, featuring experts in nutrition and mental health who will discuss holistic support systems for those living with MS.

Community interaction plays a crucial role this year, with NMSS organizing a café activation on May 30 and 31 in more than 30 locations across the UAE. This initiative aims to inspire dialogue about MS, encouraging deeper public participation.

Notably, various landmarks throughout the UAE will be lit up to enhance awareness and spur conversations about multiple sclerosis nationwide.

Through this comprehensive World MS Day campaign, NMSS aspires to elevate awareness, broaden support networks, and cultivate an inclusive society for individuals living with MS. The initiative conveys a powerful message: those with multiple sclerosis are not alone, as a compassionate community stands alongside them.
