Dr. Madiha Ahmed Al Shibani, the Minister of Education in the Sultanate of Oman, received Dr. Rima Karami, the Minister of Education and Higher Education of the Lebanese Republic. The meeting took place as part of the Lebanese minister’s official visit to Oman. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen educational cooperation between the two countries and to explore new ways of exchanging expertise in different areas of education. Both sides expressed their interest in building a long-term partnership that supports the growth and development of their educational systems.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed several important educational topics that concern both nations. One of the main points of discussion was strategic planning for the education sector. They spoke about how long-term planning can help shape strong education policies and programs that respond to modern needs. They also exchanged views on how to create efficient systems that support both students and teachers. The goal of these discussions was to ensure that education in both countries continues to improve and meet global standards.
Another major topic discussed was the role of digital transformation in education. Both sides highlighted how digital tools have become essential in modern teaching and learning. They explored ways to improve digital administration in schools, such as using technology to manage school operations and student records more effectively. They also discussed using digital resources in classrooms to make lessons more interactive and engaging. The Lebanese minister showed interest in Oman’s advancements in digital education, and the Omani side expressed readiness to share its experience.
Evaluation mechanisms and quality assurance were also key points in the meeting. The ministers discussed how schools can be regularly assessed to ensure that students receive high-quality education. They talked about the importance of proper supervision, continuous monitoring, and reliable evaluation systems. Both sides agreed that strong quality assurance frameworks help raise educational standards and provide students with a better learning environment. They also talked about improving the quality of basic and secondary education through updated teaching methods and improved training programs for teachers.
The two ministers also discussed the latest progress on the Memorandum of Understanding between Oman’s Ministry of Education and Lebanon’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The MoU aims to formalize cooperation and make it easier for both countries to exchange knowledge, training, and expertise. According to the ministers, the final steps for signing the MoU are now being completed. The signing is expected to take place during the upcoming meetings of the Omani-Lebanese Joint Committee. Once signed, the MoU will provide a clear framework for future cooperation.
As part of the Lebanese delegation’s visit, a wider meeting was also held between the two sides. During this meeting, the Lebanese delegation presented a detailed paper titled “The Education Sector in the Lebanese Republic.” The paper explained the current situation of Lebanon’s education sector, the challenges it faces, and the steps being taken to improve it. The Omani side also presented a paper titled “School Education in the Sultanate of Oman and Its Future Prospects.” This document highlighted Oman’s achievements in education, its future goals, and its plans to further develop school education across the country.
Both sides agreed that sharing such papers and academic studies helps deepen understanding and opens the door for more practical cooperation. By learning from each other’s experiences, Oman and Lebanon aim to enhance the quality of education in both countries. The discussions during the visit were positive and productive, and both ministers expressed their hope that these talks will lead to long-term collaboration that benefits students, teachers, and educational institutions in Oman and Lebanon.
