Oman Begins Programme To Train Youth For Semiconductor Industry

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in Oman has started a new training programme to develop national talent in the fast-growing semiconductor industry. This programme has been launched in partnership with international experts and aims to help young Omani graduates understand one of the world’s most important modern technology fields.

Semiconductors form the backbone of many advanced technologies used today. They are essential for developing artificial intelligence, modern communication tools, computers, and electronic devices. Because of their importance, countries around the world are working hard to build skilled workers who can support this industry. Oman is now taking strong steps in the same direction.

The main goal of this programme is to prepare a new generation of local professionals who can keep up with the quick changes happening globally in the semiconductor sector. The training will help young people understand how chips are designed, produced, tested and used in modern systems. This will also help Oman strengthen its position in the global technology market.

The programme is designed in two main phases. The first part will take place in Oman, where trainees will receive detailed theoretical training. They will learn about different stages of chip design, basics of engineering design, and how semiconductors are created. The lessons will also cover manufacturing stages, packaging techniques, and how chips are used in systems such as communication devices, computers and smart machines.

The second phase will take place in Taiwan, one of the world’s most advanced hubs for semiconductor development. In Taiwan, trainees will undergo advanced practical training and get hands-on experience in real laboratories and factories. This international exposure will help students understand global industry standards and the high level of skills required for semiconductor production.

Participants for this programme have been carefully selected from graduates in electronic engineering, computer engineering, communications and mechatronics. These fields provide the basic knowledge required to understand semiconductor technologies. By selecting candidates from these backgrounds, the programme increases the chances of building strong and capable national talent.

This training initiative will run until 25 December 2025. Over this period, trainees will follow a structured and comprehensive training plan that gradually builds their knowledge and skills. They will learn about industry basics, design methods, manufacturing stages, and important semiconductor applications used in modern technology systems. The training will ensure that participants become confident and job-ready.

The programme represents a major step in Oman’s plan to develop advanced technology sectors. By investing in this field, the country hopes to build a skilled workforce, reduce dependence on foreign expertise, and create new job opportunities for young people. The long-term vision also includes supporting local innovation, attracting technology investments, and contributing to global semiconductor supply chains.

With this effort, Oman is preparing its youth to participate in a highly competitive and strategically important global industry. The training programme reflects the nation’s commitment to building strong future capabilities and strengthening its position in the rapidly expanding world of advanced technologies such as computing and digital systems.
