Oman, Kazakhstan Boost Archives and Digital Records Ties

Post by : Shakul

The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Kazakhstan have taken a significant step toward strengthening cooperation in the fields of documents, archives and digital record management. The discussions took place during the visit of a delegation from Oman's National Records and Archives Authority to Kazakhstan, where they participated in the Third Conference of Archivists held in Astana.

The meeting reflected the shared commitment of both countries to preserving historical records, advancing digital transformation and enhancing professional cooperation between archival institutions.

High-Level Talks Focus on Knowledge Exchange

The Omani delegation was led by Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Dhawyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority, while the Kazakh side was represented by Aliya Mustafina, Head of the Presidential Archives of Kazakhstan.

During the discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening international partnerships between archival organizations. Officials highlighted that cooperation in this field contributes to preserving national memory, improving access to historical records and adopting advanced technologies that support archival development.

Digital Transformation Takes Center Stage

A key focus of the talks was the growing role of digital transformation in records management. The two sides exchanged views on modern document management systems, digital archives, preservation methods and restoration techniques.

Officials explored opportunities for technical and professional collaboration that could enhance the efficiency of archival operations while ensuring long-term protection of valuable documentary assets. The discussions also addressed the use of innovative technologies to improve access to information and support scientific research.

Oman Showcases Modern Records Management System

During the session, Dr. Al-Dhawyani presented an overview of Oman’s National Records and Archives Authority and its efforts to build an integrated records management framework across government institutions.

He highlighted the Authority’s electronic document and records management system, describing it as a vital component of Oman’s digital transformation strategy. The system supports institutional efficiency, facilitates secure document exchange and strengthens governance through organized records management practices.

Preserving National Memory Through Innovation

The Omani delegation also outlined its work in document preservation, sterilization, restoration and public access services. Officials emphasized the Authority’s role in supporting academic research, organizing exhibitions and hosting conferences that showcase the historical significance of Omani documents and archives.

These initiatives help preserve Oman’s national memory while making historical information more accessible to researchers, students and the wider public.

Exploring Kazakhstan’s Advanced Archival Facilities

As part of the visit, the Omani delegation toured the Presidential Archives of Kazakhstan and received detailed briefings on its preservation systems, research services and technological capabilities.

The delegation reviewed modern restoration laboratories, document maintenance facilities and advanced archival equipment used to protect valuable records. Officials also visited an exhibition highlighting the role of technology in presenting historical documents and preserving cultural heritage for future generations.

Strengthening Global Partnerships for the Future

The visit reflects Oman’s broader strategy of expanding its presence in international archival forums and building partnerships with leading institutions worldwide. By learning from global experiences and sharing best practices, Oman aims to further develop its archival sector in line with international standards.

The cooperation between Oman and Kazakhstan is expected to open new opportunities in digital archiving, records management, preservation technologies and research accessibility, contributing to the sustainable protection of documentary heritage in both countries.
