OpenAI Launches AI Academy to Train Newsrooms and Journalists

OpenAI Launches AI Academy to Train Newsrooms and Journalists

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Academy for News Organizations, a new digital learning platform designed to help journalists and publishers use AI in their daily newsroom work. The academy aims to support media professionals as artificial intelligence becomes more common in modern journalism. The initiative was developed in partnership with the American Journalism Project and The Lenfest Institute for Journalism and was introduced at the AI and Journalism Summit.

The academy offers practical training, technical guides, and real newsroom examples to help teams understand how AI can be used effectively. One of the main courses, called AI Essentials for Journalists, introduces basic AI concepts, while advanced sessions are available for product and technology teams that want to build custom AI tools for their organizations.

The training covers real newsroom tasks such as investigative reporting, data analysis, multilingual news production, and content workflows. The platform also provides open-source projects and shared resources that news organizations can adjust to fit their own needs, making it easier to apply technology in everyday journalism.

A key part of the program focuses on responsible use of AI. It includes guidance on ethical standards, accuracy, transparency, and editorial control to ensure trust in news reporting. OpenAI said it plans to expand the academy with live sessions and more courses, making it a long-term resource for media organizations adapting to new journalism technologies.
