Post by : Meena Hassan

World Championship-winning para archer Sheetal Devi has achieved a significant milestone in Indian sports. She is set to join India’s able-bodied junior team for the Asia Cup Stage 3 in Jeddah, making history as the first para athlete to represent the nation in an able-bodied international event.

A Vision Fulfilled

Taking to social media, Sheetal shared:

"When I embarked on my competitive journey, my dream was simple – to compete alongside able-bodied athletes and earn medals. Initially, I faced challenges, but I persevered, learning from each obstacle. Now, that dream feels closer than ever."

Encouraging others, she remarked:

"Dreams require time, effort, belief, and persistence."

Anand Mahindra Recognizes Her Tenacity

Industrialist Anand Mahindra expressed his admiration by stating:

"Sheetal, I never doubted your ability to be ‘able-bodied.’ In truth, your ability surpasses that of many others. Your heart is unparalleled. You make India proud."

Earlier this year, Mahindra presented Sheetal with a brand-new Mahindra Scorpio-N to honor her incredible achievements.

A Pivotal Moment for Indian Athletics

Sheetal Devi’s inclusion in the team transcends personal achievement; it sets a groundbreaking precedent for para athletes in India. Her journey illustrates that with dedication, resilience, and faith, challenges can be overcome and aspirations can materialize. Her story will undoubtedly motivate numerous young athletes in the nation to strive for greatness and defy limitations.
