Train Crash Between Pezinok and Bratislava Injures Over 30, Rail Services Suspended

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

On Sunday, a significant train crash between Pezinok and Bratislava in Slovakia resulted in injuries to numerous passengers and disrupted rail services. This incident involved two commuter trains, and the exact reasons for the collision are still under investigation.

The accident occurred shortly after train REX 1814, en route from Nitra to Bratislava, left Pezinok station and collided head-on with train Ex 620. The collision derailed several carriages, leading to injuries for nearly 30 passengers, with some requiring immediate medical attention. Thankfully, there have been no reported fatalities.

In the aftermath, rail services on this route have been suspended. The state-run carrier ZSSK has issued warnings about extensive delays and possible service interruptions as emergency teams evaluate the situation. “Emergency services are currently on-site addressing the incident, and several injuries have been confirmed,” stated ZSSK, prioritizing the safety of both passengers and staff.

Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok is on his way to the scene to oversee rescue and investigative activities. ZSSK is conducting a thorough investigation alongside national railway and transport agencies to uncover the details surrounding the collision.

Passengers are advised to steer clear of the affected route and consider alternative transportation. Continuous updates regarding train services and investigation outcomes will be shared as emergency teams work to restore operations and enhance safety.

This incident highlights increasing concerns regarding rail safety in Slovakia, prompting swift action from transportation and emergency services.
