GOA – Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked Deepavali on October 20, 2025, with armed forces members aboard INS Vikrant, celebrating India’s progress in overcoming Maoism and fostering national advancement. In an open letter to the public, he deemed this Deepavali `special` as it ushers in the illumination of lamps in previously troubled districts where Naxalism and Maoist terrorism have been eradicated. Modi referred to the elimination of Maoism as a `significant achievement` for the country, reflecting India’s dedication to fostering peace, development, and security.
`For the first time, lamps will shine in numerous districts across the nation, even in remote areas. These districts have seen the root eradication of Naxalism and Maoism. Many individuals have turned away from violence, choosing instead to engage in developmental efforts, demonstrating their faith in our Constitution. This is a monumental achievement,` PM Modi noted. His words emphasize India's success in reshaping conflict-stricken regions and enhancing law and order. Operation Sindoor exemplifies the armed forces' unwavering commitment to justice, unity, and the safeguarding of citizens, marking a significant chapter in India's internal security narrative.
The Prime Minister called on citizens to embrace the Swadeshi initiative and fulfill their responsibilities to the nation. He urged everyone to support local industries, honor all languages, keep their environments clean, prioritize health, cut oil consumption by 10%, and incorporate Yoga into their daily routines. `These collective actions will rapidly advance us toward a 'Viksit Bharat',` he stated. PM Modi's appeal signifies the government's wider mission of self-sufficiency, cultural preservation, and comprehensive national growth. Adopting Swadeshi, according to the Prime Minister, is crucial for enhancing economic upliftment, empowering local businesses, and ensuring sustainable prospects for generations to come.
Additionally, Modi underscored the government's landmark decision to lower Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates, labeling it a crucial step toward financial relief for citizens. `On the inaugural day of Navratri, reduced GST rates took effect. During this 'GST Bachat Utsav,' citizens are saving billions,` he stated. The Prime Minister highlighted that GST reforms and resultant savings positively impact millions across India, fostering economic stability and contributing to the nation’s long-term developmental aspirations.
In closing, PM Modi emphasized India's increasing global relevance, asserting that amid worldwide challenges, Bharat stands as a beacon of stability and sensitivity. He expressed optimism that India is on course to become the third-largest economy globally soon. By foregrounding economic reforms, national defense successes, and cultural integrity, PM Modi's Deepavali address reinforced a message of progress, resilience, and unity for all citizens of India.
