Proactive Health Measures Essential to Prevent Serious Illnesses

Proactive Health Measures Essential to Prevent Serious Illnesses

Post by : Shakul

In Vietnam, the rise of non-communicable diseases is alarming, as many individuals overlook initial warning signs until serious health issues arise. Medical professionals note that conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases are increasingly prevalent, partly due to unhealthy habits and postponed medical checkups.

Health authorities are concerned that many individuals only realize they have chronic conditions after facing emergencies like strokes or heart issues. They are advocating for routine health assessments and healthier living to combat the escalating rates of these diseases nationwide.

Eighty-two-year-old Khuat Ngoc Ha from Phuc Tho discovered his hypertension during a routine check, despite feeling well. After understanding the dangers of high blood pressure, he has been diligent with his medication, diet, and follow-ups, which have kept his health stable.

Conversely, sixty-six-year-old Le Van Hoang from Gia Lam was unaware of his high blood pressure until he suffered a stroke caused by cerebral infarction. After being rushed to Gia Lam General Hospital, he received emergency treatment that successfully stabilized his condition.

Currently, approximately 6,000 patients at Gia Lam General Hospital are receiving outpatient care for conditions like hypertension and diabetes. The hospital has enhanced its disease management strategies through proactive screening, ongoing monitoring, and risk assessment schemes. Meanwhile, hypertension-related issues comprise nearly 60% of inpatient cases in certain departments, particularly among older patients with pre-existing conditions.

Experts indicate that non-communicable diseases often progress gradually, often with mild or undetectable symptoms in their early phases. Leading risk factors include smoking, alcohol use, poor dietary choices, stress, inactivity, and pollution. Many individuals neglect these risks until their conditions become serious and harder to manage.

Healthcare providers encourage regular home monitoring of blood pressure and maintaining healthy lifestyles. They advise reducing salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats, increasing physical activity, and ensuring sufficient sleep. Moreover, adhering to prescribed treatments and consulting doctors before discontinuing medication is crucial.

Experts believe that enhanced public awareness, timely diagnosis, and effective long-term management can significantly cut the incidence of deaths and disabilities linked to chronic illnesses. Authorities stress that proactive healthcare and lifestyle changes serve as vital measures against non-communicable diseases and their severe complications.
