Qatar Unveils New Digital Plan for Transport and Logistics

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Qatar has introduced a new and ambitious digital plan to modernise its transport and logistics sector. This roadmap is part of a wider national programme to speed up digital transformation across important economic areas and strengthen Qatar’s role as a smart and efficient regional logistics centre.

The announcement took place during MWC25 Doha, where the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Ministry of Transport jointly revealed the new strategy. The roadmap is a major achievement of Qatar’s Digital Transformation Offices initiative, which focuses on building strong and connected digital systems across major sectors such as transport, tourism, logistics, healthcare, and national infrastructure.

These transformation offices aim to encourage innovation, support the private sector, improve customer experience, and place AI at the heart of future planning. Through this approach, Qatar hopes to make government and private services more efficient, faster, and easier for businesses and individuals.

Reem Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry at MCIT, explained that the roadmap includes 39 important projects designed to rebuild and update Qatar’s national transport system. She said these projects will help create smarter, data-based supply chains that can respond quickly to changes in demand. Al Mansoori added that this digital ecosystem is expected to add more than QAR 278 million to the non-oil ICT sector, supporting Qatar’s economic growth and diversification goals.

Khalifa Al Hajri, adviser to the Minister of Transport, highlighted the need to move away from traditional infrastructure and adopt intelligent systems to remain competitive on a global level. According to him, the entire roadmap is built on three main pillars: improving infrastructure efficiency, integrating services across the sector, and boosting Qatar’s international connectivity.

One of the most important projects under the roadmap is the Digital Logistics Services Portal. This “single-window” platform will allow operators and service providers in the transport and logistics sector to complete all procedures in one place. The portal will help reduce delays, simplify processes, and improve coordination between transport services of different types.

The ministries also plan to partner with local and international organisations to introduce digital asset management systems, advanced data analytics platforms, smart-port solutions, and smart-airport services. These improvements aim to make Qatar’s logistics environment more reliable, transparent, and efficient.

Additionally, the roadmap includes several initiatives designed to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors. By using unified digital solutions, both sides can work together more effectively, share information, reduce costs, and improve the overall quality of services available to businesses and citizens.

Through this comprehensive digital roadmap, Qatar aims to build a modern and sustainable transport and logistics sector that supports its long-term development goals. The new plan highlights Qatar’s commitment to improving service standards, using innovative technologies, and creating an environment where new ideas and smart solutions can thrive. With its focus on digital strength and regional leadership, the country is moving confidently toward becoming a major smart logistics hub in the region.
