The Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament began today in Geneva, Switzerland. This big event brings together leaders from parliaments all over the world. A special team from Qatar’s Shura Council is attending the conference. This team is led by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, who is the head of the Shura Council. The conference will last for three days. Many important talks and meetings will take place during this time.

Main Topics of This Year’s Conference

This year’s conference will focus on several important topics. One key subject is the participation of women and young people in the work of parliaments. The conference will also discuss how to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. These goals are a set of global targets to make the world a better place by fighting poverty, protecting the environment, and promoting peace.

Another important topic is the role of parliaments in digital transformation. Digital transformation means using new technology and the internet to improve how governments and societies work. The conference wants to explore how parliaments can help their countries become more modern and connected through technology.

Opening Session and Important Speeches

The conference started with a special opening session. Many speakers from different countries and international organizations gave important speeches. They all talked about how crucial it is for parliaments to work together. They said that cooperation between parliaments is necessary to solve the big challenges the world is facing today.

The challenges mentioned include armed conflicts, rising security threats, and the weakening of international laws. These problems make the world unstable and unsafe. The speakers stressed that parliaments can play a strong role in promoting dialogue and defending justice. They also can help restore peace and balance in the world.

Why Parliamentary Cooperation Matters Now

The speakers explained why parliamentary cooperation is urgent in today’s world. There are many armed conflicts happening in different parts of the world. Security threats are increasing, and many countries are ignoring the important rules of international law.

International law is a set of rules that countries agree to follow so they can live peacefully and fairly with each other. When countries break these rules, it causes conflicts and harms people everywhere. The speakers said that parliaments, as representatives of the people, must work together to defend these laws and promote peace.

Meeting Between Qatar and Pakistan Parliamentary Leaders

While the conference was ongoing, HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim met with HE Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani, who leads the Senate of Pakistan. During this meeting, they talked about how Qatar and Pakistan can strengthen their parliamentary relations. They discussed ways to improve cooperation and exchange ideas.

They also talked about important regional and international issues. The Palestinian cause was one of the main topics discussed. HE Al Ghanim expressed Qatar’s strong support for the Palestinian people and their rights. He said that it is important for parliaments to work together in international meetings to support peace and security worldwide.

Pakistan Praises Qatar’s Humanitarian Work

In response, the Pakistani Senate Chairman praised Qatar for its humanitarian and diplomatic efforts, especially in Gaza. He appreciated Qatar’s continuous work to bring a ceasefire and reduce suffering among civilians in conflict areas. He said Qatar’s role in pushing for peaceful solutions that protect Palestinian rights is very important and highly respected.

Special Meeting on International Law and UN Charter

Earlier in the day, HE Speaker Hassan Al Ghanim attended a high-level meeting on the side of the conference. This meeting focused on the importance of upholding international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter.

They discussed the risks caused by the weakening of international laws. Many countries are breaking these rules by carrying out military actions without approval from the UN. Some countries also use economic pressure unfairly on others. The meeting called attention to these problems and highlighted the need for stronger global respect for international rules.

Panel on Women and Youth Participation in Parliaments

HE Deputy Speaker Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti took part in the first panel discussion of the conference. The topic was women’s and youth participation in parliaments, especially during times of division and hardship.

She explained that Qatar gives special importance to involving women and young people in public life. She said that it is necessary to create equal opportunities for everyone. Qatar believes that having women and youth involved in decision-making will make the country stronger and more developed.

Qatar’s Commitment to Human Development

Dr. Hamda talked about how Qatar is moving forward with its national plans for human development. These plans are part of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and other national strategies. The goal is to empower women and youth because their role is essential for the progress of society and achieving sustainable development.

She stressed that empowering women and youth is a main pillar for building a better future and improving life in Qatar.

Qatar’s Programs to Support Women and Youth

Dr. Hamda mentioned that Qatar has launched many new and creative programs. These programs help women and young people gain more political knowledge and encourage them to take part in decision-making roles. Qatar works hard to make sure women and youth are active and have a voice in public matters.

One example she gave was the Doha Parliamentary Youth Forum. This forum took place last November and was supported by the UN and the Shura Council. It brought together students, parliament members, and experts from Qatar and many other countries.

Youth Role in Policy Making

The Doha Parliamentary Youth Forum served as a strong platform to raise the role of youth in policy making. It helped young people understand how they can participate and influence important decisions. This is part of Qatar’s effort to involve youth more deeply in shaping the future of their country and the world.

A Strong Step for Global Cooperation

The Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament is an important event for parliaments worldwide. It gives them a chance to meet, share ideas, and discuss big issues facing the world today.

Qatar’s Shura Council showed a strong presence and commitment in this conference. Their participation highlights Qatar’s dedication to promoting peace, justice, and cooperation between countries.

Qatar also shows its support for empowering women and youth. Through these efforts, Qatar aims to contribute positively to international peace and sustainable development.

This conference will help parliaments work better together to face global challenges and build a safer and more just world for everyone.
