Manama, Feb. 16: Acting on the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Prime Minister, the Royal Medical Services (RMS) of the Bahrain Defence Force signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shonan Kamakura General Hospital of Japan. The agreement follows His Royal Highness’s official visit to Japan last September, which reinforced bilateral relations and strategic cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Japan.
The MoU represents an important step toward expanding healthcare collaboration and benefiting from Japan’s advanced medical expertise. It aims to enhance the quality of healthcare services in Bahrain in line with the highest international standards, while promoting innovation and sustainable development within the medical sector.
The memorandum was signed during the official visit to Japan by Brigadier Doctor Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Commander of the RMS and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Overseas Treatment, in the presence of Ahmed Mohammed Al Doseri, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Japan. The signing reflects the strong Bahraini–Japanese relations and the shared commitment to strengthening institutional cooperation in healthcare.
Under the agreement, both sides will cooperate in several key areas, including coordination of medical cases, implementation of specialised training and academic programmes, exchange of medical expertise, cooperation in research and scientific development, and the organisation of specialised medical conferences. These initiatives are expected to support capacity building, knowledge transfer, and improved treatment outcomes.
Brigadier Doctor Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa stated that the MoU marks a significant milestone in expanding the RMS’s international partnerships. He noted that cooperation with leading Japanese medical institutions will contribute positively to developing human and technical capabilities and enhancing overseas treatment programmes, ultimately improving the quality of healthcare services provided in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
