Selangor Explores Incremental Rent Increase for PPR Properties

Selangor Explores Incremental Rent Increase for PPR Properties

Post by : Shakul

The government of Selangor is deliberating a phased increase in rental fees for the People’s Housing Project (PPR) as part of initiatives aimed at enhancing maintenance and upgrading facilities within public housing complexes.

According to Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, the chairman of the State Housing and Culture Committee, this initiative follows the management of PPR housing being transferred to Perumahan dan Hartanah Selangor Sdn Bhd through an agreement with the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

While the current rental fee of RM124 is under review, Borhan mentioned that the specific new rate has yet to be finalized as discussions with residents are still in progress.

He pointed out that many PPR buildings require essential repairs, including repainting, lift maintenance, cleaning of water tanks, and enhancements to shared facilities that benefit numerous residents.

Additionally, the state government has secured RM2.3 million from the Housing and Local Government Ministry to finance a year’s worth of maintenance and management in the housing sector.

New management strategies are expected to implement more rigorous monitoring systems, such as access card mechanisms and parking regulations, aimed at improving safety and organization within the residential areas.

Simultaneously, the Selangor government is addressing allegations of tenants subletting their units to other parties, an act officials describe as inequitable to eligible residents awaiting housing support.

Borhan also announced that enforcement measures against illegal pig farming in Tanjung Sepat will commence on July 1, following a six-month grace period allowed for operators.
