Al Ain Museum Reopens After Restoration to Preserve Heritage

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, attended the reopening of Al Ain Museum following a comprehensive restoration. The redevelopment aimed to preserve the building’s cultural and archaeological significance while introducing modern facilities and exhibition halls with advanced interactive technologies.

The reopening ceremony was attended by senior UAE officials including H.H. Sheikh Suroor bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, and H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Several sheikhs, government leaders, and cultural authorities were also present to mark the significant occasion.

Sheikh Hazza toured the museum’s new sections and exhibits, which highlight traditional UAE customs and heritage. The museum showcases agriculture, traditional fishing, ancestral crafts, and artefacts from ancient human settlements, including pottery, iron arrowheads, and daggers from Jebel Hafeet Tombs and Al Qattara Oasis.

The restoration expanded the museum from 1,200 to 8,000 square metres. The redevelopment introduced 10 main galleries with advanced audiovisual and interactive displays. Visitors can now access research facilities, conservation laboratories, educational spaces, a reading room, café, retail area, and a hall for temporary exhibitions.

Sheikh Hazza emphasized that Al Ain Museum is one of the UAE’s most important cultural landmarks and the first museum established in the country. Its reopening reflects the vision of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to continue the legacy of the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, by preserving the nation’s heritage for future generations.

He also commended the work of cultural and heritage institutions dedicated to protecting historical landmarks. Sheikh Hazza highlighted that documenting and safeguarding national heritage strengthens the connection between the past, present, and future, fostering appreciation among younger generations and reinforcing UAE national identity.
