Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Attends G20 Summit in South Africa

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, to participate in the 2025 G20 Summit. He is taking part in this gathering on behalf of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE's involvement in this significant global event underscores its expanding role in international collaboration and commitment to fostering global development initiatives.

This year, the invitation for the UAE to join the G20 Summit came from Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of South Africa. This invite signifies the robust relationship between the UAE and South Africa, along with the global community’s acknowledgment of the UAE's proactive engagement in pressing international matters. The G20 Summit convenes the world's leading economies to address economic, social, and environmental challenges impacting populations worldwide.

Accompanying Sheikh Khaled is a prominent UAE delegation, which features several key ministers and senior officials. This includes Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment. The team also comprises Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council. Additionally, Maryam Eid AlMheiri, Chairperson of Abu Dhabi Media Office, is part of the delegation.

The current G20 Summit is historically significant as it marks the first time it is being hosted in Africa. The theme emphasizes Africa's rising role in the global economy and the urgent need for inclusive growth. Key topics on the agenda include equitable economic development, a balanced energy transition, and accelerating progress toward the sustainable development goals.

The UAE's inclusion in the summit highlights its strong belief in collaborative efforts to tackle common challenges. As a nation that has consistently advocated for international partnerships, the UAE seeks to contribute to discussions aimed at enhancing economic development and improving living conditions globally. The summit will gather world leaders to share insights, best practices, and establish new collaborations that promote global stability.

Sheikh Khaled’s attendance further emphasizes the UAE’s ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across the globe. By participating in the G20 Summit, the UAE reasserts its dedication to fostering cooperation in economic advancement, energy solutions, and sustainable future strategies. These objectives align with the UAE’s overarching vision for contributing to both regional and international growth.

As the discussions unfold, the UAE delegation aims to showcase the nation's expertise in economic diversification, innovation promotion, and advancement of renewable energy—subjects that resonate not only with the UAE’s national objectives but also with global priorities. Through its active participation in the G20, the UAE aspires to facilitate solutions that benefit both developed and developing countries.

The UAE's involvement in this year’s G20 Summit further solidifies its commitment to international dialogue, economic collaboration, and sustainable development. By engaging with global leaders in Johannesburg, the UAE continues to champion international cooperation that is vital for cultivating a stable and prosperous future for all. The presence of the Crown Prince signifies the nation’s commitment to participating in pivotal global discussions that help shape a brighter world.
