Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Border Security Council, toured various inspection sites at Jebel Ali Port to assess the initiatives implemented by Dubai Customs aimed at bolstering border security. During his visit, he gained insights into the latest strategies to curb smuggling of prohibited goods and ensure the safety of operations at the port.

Sheikh Mansoor received a briefing on the innovative inspection technology employed by Dubai Customs, which harnesses artificial intelligence for the detection of illegal activities. This technology enables customs personnel to more efficiently monitor containers and promptly react to any suspicious cases. Such smart systems play a pivotal role in Dubai's overarching strategy to establish a robust and secure border management framework that deters smuggling and safeguards the community.

Accompanying Sheikh Mansoor were Dr. Abdulla Busenad, Director-General of Dubai Customs, and Omar Ali Salem Al Addidi, Secretary-General of the Dubai Border Security Council. They provided insights into the advanced inspection tools and how they align with Dubai's vision of becoming a safe hub for global trade.

During the inspection, Sheikh Mansoor observed the operational efficiency of cutting-edge examination technologies, including high-capacity gantry container-scanning systems and radiation detection networks. These systems are recognized globally for their precision and rapid scanning abilities, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of trade while prioritizing safety. They are vital in identifying smuggling activities and detecting illegal substances.

Sheikh Mansoor also visited various platforms used for inspections to witness firsthand the efforts of Dubai Customs’ Customs Inspection Division. He received detailed explanations about their monitoring techniques, field procedures, and inspection methods for identifying potentially questionable shipments. Such practices amplify the readiness of customs personnel and enhance their swift response capacity for any security threats linked to illicit trade.

The visit underscored the significant trade volume passing through Jebel Ali Port, recognized as one of the globe's foremost logistics centers. Officials briefed Sheikh Mansoor on the swift growth in cargo traffic and the extensive range of international shipping routes. The success of the port reinforces Dubai’s solid standing in the realms of global trade. Dubai Customs consistently adopts international best practices for border inspections, merging security with seamless trade frameworks to foster the emirate's economic progress.

Sheikh Mansoor lauded the sophisticated level of Dubai Customs’ inspection ecosystem and acknowledged the ongoing dedication to integrating modern technologies. He also emphasized the essential collaboration among various agencies to effectively address security challenges and uphold high levels of preparedness. Such teamwork is crucial for Dubai in averting illegal trade activities and securing societal safety.

Dr. Abdulla Busenad affirmed Dubai Customs’ commitment to enhancing the emirate’s reputation as a safe global trade hub by fostering local talent and enhancing international partnerships. These initiatives are aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. He expressed gratitude for the robust support offered by the Dubai Border Security Council in fortifying the emirate's customs and security frameworks.

Dr. Busenad highlighted that customs inspectors are vital in the frontline defense against drugs, weapons, explosives, counterfeit items, and other restricted goods. Their efforts are bolstered by a comprehensive security system adhering to global standards, incorporating advanced AI technologies for inspection and surveillance.

The visit concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to continuous investment in state-of-the-art technologies and the development of local talents. These initiatives are essential for maintaining strong security measures while enabling Dubai Customs to protect the community and promote sustainable economic advancement.
