Sheikh Nahyan Champions Unity During Tolerance Walk in UAE

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

In a powerful display of unity, the United Arab Emirates showcased its dedication to peaceful coexistence through the recent “Tolerance Walk to Mars.” The event was spearheaded by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence. Approximately 3,000 individuals from various communities throughout the UAE participated, endorsing the values of acceptance and harmony.

Held at Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi, the event was a collaboration between the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence and the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026. As part of the National Festival of Tolerance, which celebrated its third day with this gathering, the festival aims to unite citizens and illuminate the importance of respect within the UAE's diverse landscape.

Sheikh Nahyan was joined by notable guests including Zhang Yiming, the Ambassador of China, who was honored as the festival's Guest of Honour this year. Also present were Sheikh Mohammed bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, head of the UAE Rugby Federation, alongside Afra Al Sabri, Director-General of the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence.

The walk attracted numerous dignitaries, such as federal and local officials, spiritual leaders, and cultural figures, all signifying the widespread appeal of the message of tolerance across all sectors of society.

A highlight of the event was the planting of significant trees; Sheikh Nahyan planted a tree from China, while Ambassador Zhang planted a Ghaf tree, representing the UAE. This gesture occurred in the Garden of Tolerance, attended by Carolin Konther López, the Paraguayan Ambassador to the UAE, symbolizing the friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Additionally, Sheikh Nahyan and the Chinese Ambassador unveiled a plaque commemorating the 10th anniversary of Umm Al Emarat Park, underlining its role in fostering peace and unity.

In his address, Sheikh Nahyan emphasized that the Tolerance Walk exemplifies the UAE's commitment to acceptance. He expressed joy witnessing the enthusiastic response from the community, referring to their participation as a “symphony in all languages and colors.” This expression reflected the harmony of diverse groups united in purpose.

He acknowledged the participation of the Abu Dhabi 2026 Masters Games, which promotes a culture of health and sports for everyone, reiterating that this event included all sections of UAE society, thus embodying genuine tolerance.

Sheikh Nahyan further articulated that the robust public turnout resonates with the UAE's ongoing journey toward tolerance, which has effectively fostered a community comprising varied cultures and backgrounds. He credited the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE's founding father, for instilling the tenets of tolerance, coexistence, and respect that remain guiding principles today.

The Tolerance Walk to Mars concluded with a profound message: the UAE stands as a beacon for harmonious living, where all differences are honored, and unity is cherished. This event reinforced the idea that in the UAE, tolerance is more than just a word; it is a fundamental aspect of life.
