On April 6, Sri Lanka will launch its “National QR Payment Promotion Program,” marking a significant advancement in its quest for a cashless economy. The initiative will be inaugurated by Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Under this program, merchants will no longer incur service charges for LankaQR transactions below Rs. 5,000. This strategy is aimed at aiding small enterprises by facilitating digital payments without extra expenses.
While Sri Lanka boasts a robust digital financial ecosystem with extensive banking accessibility, the current utilization of digital payments remains subpar. In response, the government is implementing actions to enhance adoption rates.
The initiative will also launch prize raffles for both merchants and users and will be accompanied by a comprehensive national marketing effort. Officials assert that the aim is to foster a secure, swift, and all-encompassing digital payment framework across the nation.
