During the “China Tourism Day, May 19” event at the China Cultural Center in Bangkok, Thailand and China celebrated their longstanding diplomatic and cultural ties. The occasion also featured the launch of the fourth “I Want to Go to China” Creative Short Video Contest, uniting tourism officials, diplomats, and industry representatives from both nations.
Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, was in attendance, delivering a keynote address that underscored the critical role of tourism in fortifying relations between Thailand and China. Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jianwei and leaders from the Tourism Authority of Thailand and tourism sectors also participated in the event.
Surasak described the event as a testament to the enduring friendship shared by the two countries. He echoed the sentiment that Thailand and China are “brothers, not strangers,” noting that tourism and culture serve to forge deep connections between their peoples.
Fostering Tourism and Regional Collaboration
Looking ahead, the minister noted that 2026 will mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, terming it “50 Golden Years of Friendship.” He elaborated on the practical cooperation achieved in tourism, trade, and regional progress over the years.
The two nations have collaborated to streamline visa procedures, enhance international flight routes, and bolster tourist safety measures. Officials also pointed to the significance of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement in facilitating tourism and digital economy collaboration across borders.
Surasak expressed gratitude to the China National Tourism Administration in Bangkok for their ongoing efforts in promoting Chinese culture and tourism, encouraging Thai citizens to explore these opportunities and fostering mutual understanding.
Thailand Prepared for Chinese Tourism Revival
The Thai government reasserted its commitment to welcoming Chinese tourists under the “Amazing Thailand” initiative. Officials emphasized that Thailand's natural beauty, cultural richness, and modern tourism infrastructure continue to attract Chinese visitors.
Surasak further stated that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is dedicated to working alongside Chinese partners to expand tourism, facilitate regional economic recovery, and enhance cultural exchanges.
