In a strategic move to promote smoother travel ahead of the Songkran festival, Thailand's Department of Highways has temporarily halted construction on Rama II Road.
This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion as individuals head back to their hometowns or popular tourist spots during one of the busiest times of the year. The main lanes on Rama II Road—both for incoming and outgoing traffic—have been restored to facilitate safe and efficient vehicular movement.
Safety inspections have been conducted on the Bang Khun Thian - Ban Phaeo Elevated Expressway project, particularly regarding Sections 4 and 7, ensuring structural stability post-installation.
The suspension of construction will last for the duration of the Songkran festival, providing road users with improved traffic flow and mitigating congestion on this critical route.
Construction work is scheduled to resume post-holiday with appropriate traffic management measures. Certain lanes will close again to facilitate the lifting and installation of remaining components for the elevated structure, adhering to safety guidelines.
Traffic diversions are planned to initiate from April 20, 2026, particularly at kilometer markers 26 and 30+500. These diversions will be enforced during daylight hours, from 05:00 to 20:00, to minimize inconvenience.
Authorities aim to complete the outstanding construction before the school term starts in mid-May 2026, helping to prevent traffic jams during peak commuting times.
The Department of Highways encourages the public to stay updated on traffic conditions and plan travel accordingly. For real-time road information, travelers may reach out to the official hotline for assistance.
