Thailand Enhances Wildfire Response with New Control Center

Post by : Shakul

Thailand's government has escalated its initiatives to tackle wildfires nationwide, launching a dedicated War Room aimed at overseeing and managing these challenges efficiently. Teams have been dispatched to critical areas, particularly in Kanchanaburi, to bolster firefighting activities.

According to Deputy Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is refining wildfire response protocols, prioritizing both containment efforts and the wellbeing of all firefighters engaged in the mission.

A senior team assessed the situation at the wildfire command center located at Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary in Kanchanaburi. Field units have been directed to expedite firefighting operations, control flames in vulnerable regions, and employ aerial resources for challenging forest locations.

The ministry is advocating a stringent “safety first” policy, mandating all divisions to ensure that personnel, equipment, and vehicles are fully equipped prior to any deployment. Initiatives like rotating teams in high-risk zones have been implemented to mitigate fatigue and lower the chances of injuries.

Preventative measures have been enhanced across the nation, with amplified surveillance in protected forest areas and wildlife habitats. Coordination with local authorities and provincial leaders is ongoing to impose strict regulations against unlawful forest burning and mitigate fire hazards.

Tragically, two firefighters sustained injuries while tackling a blaze in Phu Pha Thoep National Park. Their injuries were linked to extreme heat and fatigue, and both are currently receiving comprehensive medical attention.

The government has reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding natural resources and supporting frontline teams. Authorities indicated that strict readiness protocols will be maintained throughout April to manage wildfires effectively and lessen their ecological and societal repercussions.
