The Department of Planning and Development – Trakhees, part of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has reinforced safety and compliance across its jurisdiction through comprehensive inspections conducted throughout 2025.
With the guidance of its Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) Department, Trakhees rolled out a thorough inspection initiative targeting industrial, commercial, and public health facilities. This initiative was geared towards enhancing workplace safety, boosting operational efficiency, and ensuring adherence to established regulations.
In total, Trakhees completed 16,021 field inspections along with 15,627 document verification tasks during 2025. This effort culminated in a commendable compliance rate of 94.06%, with 5.94% of establishments being identified as non-compliant.
The inspection program encompassed a wide array of sectors, including manufacturing, heavy industries, chemical production and storage, workshops, logistics, fuel and energy sites, hospitality, retail, waste management, and public health services, covering healthcare centers and personal care facilities. Labor accommodations and community facilities were also scrutinized.
Inspectors focused on various critical areas, including operational safety standards, machinery compliance, emergency preparedness, worker safety, hygiene, and environmental health regulations. Particular emphasis was placed on high-risk operations necessitating stringent safety protocols.
H.E. Eng. Abdullah Mohammed Belhoul, CEO of Trakhees, articulated that the inspection initiative exemplifies the department’s unwavering commitment to upholding top-tier safety standards and fostering a secure workplace environment. He noted that these efforts significantly minimize risks, safeguard lives, and facilitate sustainable business practices.
He also underscored that Trakhees is in a continuous process of enhancing its regulatory framework by embracing global best practices, expanding field inspections, and fortifying monitoring mechanisms. The department collaborates closely with various sectors to cultivate a robust health and safety compliance culture.
For establishments that did not meet compliance standards, violation notices were issued with specific deadlines for corrective action. This ensures that risks are mitigated, and appropriate measures are taken to avert future shortcomings.
In conclusion, the inspection campaign serves as a testament to Trakhees’ proactive stance on ensuring safety, protecting workers and communities, and sustaining a dependable and eco-friendly business environment.
