A delegation from TRENDS Research & Advisory embarked on its second day of a research-focused journey in Ottawa, Canada, where various critical discussions unfolded. The tour's primary goal is to boost collaboration and exchange strategic insights with Canadian officials and academic institutions.
The day commenced in the Canadian Parliament, featuring in-depth meetings with Vince Gasparro, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of State and Federal MP for the Liberal Party, and Leslie Church, Liberal MP and Parliamentary Secretary across multiple sectors including Labour, Seniors, and Family Development. These dialogues centered on how think tanks like TRENDS can aid parliamentary functions through strategic research and policy analysis.
The delegation further engaged with MP Ziad Aboultaif, a member of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. They delved into pressing geopolitical matters and underscored the importance of track-two diplomacy in fostering understanding and collaboration among nations.
Moreover, TRENDS personnel participated in a strategic dialogue with representatives from the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute (Mila), recognized globally for its AI research. The discussions aimed to explore potential collaborations to establish innovative AI-driven training initiatives, equipping young researchers with vital skills.
Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS, remarked that this research excursion signals a pivotal step in the centre's global agenda. He highlighted that TRENDS' presence in Canada, alongside its new virtual office, reflects the organization’s dedication to fostering international dialogue and leveraging Canada’s advanced research capabilities.
The occasion also featured tours and interactive sessions intended to shed light on Canada’s methodologies in research, innovation, and international collaboration. The delegation was adamant that cultivating robust global networks and partnerships is essential to advancing knowledge, refining training programs, and enhancing TRENDS' capacity to furnish policymakers with actionable insights.
These interactions are aimed at encouraging cooperation in fields such as AI, policy research, and international relations, ensuring TRENDS researchers can actively participate in global dialogues while benefiting from Canada's leading expertise in these domains.
The research tour embodies TRENDS’ commitment to connecting global researchers, nurturing young talent, and delivering significant insights to governments, institutions, and organizations worldwide. The visit to Canada marks a crucial stride in furthering these objectives and strengthening international research and technology relationships.
