Trump Dances To YMCA With Marines Aboard US Ship In Japan

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

US President Donald Trump once again made headlines during his visit to Japan as he danced to the iconic YMCA song with sailors and marines aboard the USS George Washington aircraft carrier. The lively moment followed a powerful speech to American troops, where Trump praised the strength and spirit of the US Navy.

As Marine One touched down at the Yokosuka Naval Base, the atmosphere turned festive with music playing from the film Top Gun and classic American songs like “Sweet Caroline” and “Party in the USA.” The troops, who had gathered hours earlier to welcome their commander-in-chief, cheered as Trump broke into his signature YMCA dance, a move that has become one of his most recognizable gestures at public events.

Donald Trump was joined by Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, marking a key moment in the growing diplomatic cooperation between the two allies. During his fiery address, Trump told the sailors that the true power of the Navy lies not in its ships or weapons but in its people. “It comes from you — incredible people, good-looking people — too many good-looking people,” he joked, sparking laughter among the crowd. He added humorously, “I never liked good-looking people… never admitted that before.”

The event also carried a strategic message. Trump announced plans for the US to collaborate with Japan on shipbuilding, underscoring his administration’s focus on strengthening defense and maritime ties. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan to expand cooperation in ship construction and naval technology.

Earlier in the day, Donald Trump and Prime Minister Takaichi held high-level meetings in Tokyo. The two leaders signed key agreements on trade, critical minerals, and defense cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to bolstering the Japan-US alliance. Trump praised Takaichi as “a great leader,” while she reportedly told officials that she plans to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his efforts in advancing regional diplomacy.

Japan was Trump’s second stop on his five-day Asia tour, following his visit to Malaysia, where he attended the 47th ASEAN Summit and participated in signing the Cambodia-Thailand peace agreement. His trip aims to strengthen US partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region amid rising geopolitical challenges.

The YMCA dance moment quickly went viral on social media, with clips circulating widely across platforms. Supporters hailed the performance as a “classic Trump moment,” while critics called it “unpresidential but entertaining.” Regardless of opinions, the moment captured Donald Trump’s ability to mix politics with personality, leaving both troops and viewers amused.

The visit to Japan reaffirmed Trump’s message of unity, strength, and alliance between the US and its key Asian partner. As the President continues his Asia tour, the image of Trump dancing to YMCA with Marines aboard the aircraft carrier has already become one of the defining visuals of his 2025 diplomatic journey.
