Trump Struggles to Fasten Medal of Honor During White House Event

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Donald Trump faced an awkward moment during a Medal of Honor ceremony at the White House on June 18 when he appeared to have difficulty fastening the prestigious military award around a veteran's neck.

The US President presented the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration, to Marine Corps Maj. James Capers Jr., Army Maj. Nicholas Dockery, and posthumously to Marine Corps Col. John W. Ripley, who died in 2008. The awards were given in recognition of their extraordinary bravery and service during military operations in Vietnam and Afghanistan.

During the ceremony, 88-year-old James Capers Jr. was assisted onto the stage before receiving the Medal of Honor from Trump. While placing the medal around Capers' neck, Trump reportedly said, "It's beautiful, it's beautiful," and added, "We gotta make this perfect."

However, when it was Army Maj. Nicholas Dockery's turn to receive the honor, Trump appeared to struggle with the clasp used to secure the medal. After trying for nearly a minute, he changed his approach and tied the medal by hand instead.

"I'm gonna do it a little differently, I'm gonna do it even nicer," Trump said before joking, "Now that's not coming off now."

The moment drew attention during the ceremony, but the focus remained on honoring the veterans for their courage and sacrifice.

Speaking at the event, Trump praised the recipients and said, "These are great men, great people." He also thanked them for their service, adding, "We thank you, and we will never, ever forget you."

The Medal of Honor is awarded to members of the US Armed Forces who display exceptional valor and bravery beyond the call of duty.
