The UAE Government has announced a strategic partnership with Google, offering university students a complimentary one-year subscription to the Pro plan of Google Gemini. The initiative aims to empower students with the latest generative AI tools to support learning, research, and creativity. By providing access to advanced features, the program helps students explore, summarise, and interact with educational content in innovative ways.
Empowering AI Skills in Students
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, said the UAE is committed to nurturing national talent in AI. The program aligns with the UAE National AI Strategy, enabling students to develop skills, enhance efficiency, and foster innovation. The initiative supports the country’s vision of creating a knowledge-driven and technologically advanced society under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Comprehensive Features of Google Gemini Pro
The Pro version of Google Gemini offers tools such as Gemini 2.5 Pro for complex tasks, Deep Research for compiling detailed reports, and NotebookLM to organise thoughts effectively. Students can also create interactive quizzes, summarise lecture notes, or produce short podcasts. Veo 3 allows text or photos to be transformed into short videos with sound, while 2TB of cloud storage ensures ample space for notes, projects, and multimedia content.
Boosting Education Through AI
Anthony Nakache, Google’s Managing Director in the Middle East & North Africa, highlighted a growing interest in AI and education in the UAE. Searches related to AI and study increased by 110% over the past two months, showing students and educators are keen to experiment with modern technologies. The Google Gemini Pro package is designed to harness this interest, providing tools for creative and efficient learning.
Supporting Research and Innovation
The initiative encourages students to use AI for research, project development, and knowledge building. With features like Deep Research and NotebookLM, students can analyse large amounts of information, structure their ideas, and create detailed reports. These tools are expected to improve the quality of student projects and support academic innovation in higher education institutions across the UAE.
A Vision for AI Leadership
The UAE government emphasises advancing technological capabilities to serve the community and build global leadership in AI. By providing students with free access to Google Gemini Pro, the country reinforces its commitment to education, innovation, and sustainable development, while preparing a new generation of AI-skilled professionals capable of contributing to future progress.
Fostering Knowledge and Creativity
The free Google Gemini Pro subscription represents a significant step toward integrating AI into education. It enables students to learn efficiently, explore creative solutions, and develop critical skills for tomorrow’s world. Through this initiative, the UAE strengthens its position as a hub for technology-driven education and innovation, benefiting students and the broader society.
