Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

In the sixth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, India secured a commanding 88-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan. The match was held on Sunday at the R Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo. Batting first, India scored 247 runs in their allotted 50 overs, setting a challenging target for Pakistan.

Pakistan Struggles to Chase Target

In response, Pakistan was bowled out for just 159 runs in 43 overs. Pakistani captain Fatima Sana expressed her disappointment, stating that the team gave away too many runs during the power play and death overs. She noted that restricting India to under 200 runs would have been a better scenario for Pakistan to chase.

Captain Fatima Sana Comments on Bowling

Fatima Sana highlighted that some of their bowlers struggled with seam and swing conditions. She specifically mentioned Diana Baig, saying that she was slightly confused by the movement of the ball but expected her to improve in the next match. Sana emphasized the need for better partnerships and strategic batting to adapt to match conditions.

Batting Performance Praised

Despite the defeat, the Pakistani captain praised her team’s batting efforts. She singled out Sidra Ameen as a hardworking and key player for Pakistan, noting that consistent performances in the top five could strengthen the team in future matches.

Indian Captain Applauds Bowling Effort

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance. She particularly praised Kranti for her outstanding bowling and Renuka for her support in taking wickets. Harmanpreet highlighted that although some chances were missed, the team’s overall bowling performance played a decisive role in securing the win.

Key Players and Team Strategy

India’s victory was a combination of disciplined bowling and strong batting. The team successfully created pressure on the Pakistani batters, leading to crucial wickets at key moments. Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership ensured that the team stayed focused throughout the match, allowing them to maintain control in every phase of the game.

Match Significance and Fan Reactions

The win was significant for India in the context of the World Cup, boosting the team’s morale and confidence. Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged that this match was important for both players and fans, noting that the victory would be celebrated by supporters back home. The performance reinforced India’s position as a strong contender in the tournament.

Both teams will now focus on their upcoming matches. Pakistan aims to improve its bowling and batting strategies, while India will look to maintain its momentum in the tournament. The match highlighted the importance of teamwork, focus, and adaptability in international cricket, setting the stage for exciting contests ahead.
