Ukraine's military has claimed responsibility for a major strike on the Voronezh Semiconductor Plant in Russia's Voronezh city, a facility reportedly involved in producing electronic components for advanced Russian missile and air defense systems.
According to Ukraine's General Staff, the plant manufactures critical electronics used in Russia's Iskander ballistic missiles, Kh-101 cruise missiles, and Pantsir-S1 air defense systems. Ukrainian officials said the facility was targeted because its products are used in the production of precision-guided weapons that Russia has employed in attacks across Ukraine.
The strike took place on June 22. Voronezh Oblast Governor Aleksandr Gusev first reported a missile threat in the region around 11:40 a.m. local time. Shortly afterward, photos and videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke rising from a heavily damaged industrial facility, later identified as the Voronezh Semiconductor Plant.
Later in the day, Governor Gusev said that at least five people were killed and dozens more were injured in the attack.

Voronezh Oblast borders eastern Ukraine, and the regional capital is located approximately 200 kilometers from the nearest Ukrainian-controlled territory in Kharkiv Oblast.
Ukraine's General Staff stated that destroying the plant's production capabilities could significantly affect Russia's ability to manufacture new missiles. The military described the facility as an important part of Russia's defense-industrial sector.
The attack was part of a wider wave of long-range Ukrainian strikes carried out overnight on June 22. Ukraine also reported a successful strike on a space communications center in Russia's Moscow Oblast.
While multiple videos showing damage to the facility have been geolocated to the semiconductor plant, the exact type of weapon used in the strike has not been independently verified.
