The University of Sharjah (UOS) has taken a significant step to strengthen its international collaborations by partnering with global pharmaceutical leader Eli Lilly and Company (Lilly). The partnership aims to advance healthcare innovation, improve public health, and foster educational and research initiatives.
A high-level delegation from Lilly visited the University of Sharjah to explore joint initiatives in public health, research, and education. The discussions were held at the Research Institute for Medical and Health Sciences (RIMHS) and brought together leading academics, scientists, and researchers from both institutions to share expertise and explore collaborative opportunities.
Representing UOS were Professor Rifaat Akram Hammoudi, Acting Director of the Institute; Dr. Wafaa Al Nakhi, Director of the Centre for Excellence in Public Health; and Professor Farah Naja from the College of Health Sciences. The Health Promotion Research Group also participated, contributing their knowledge on public health issues and applied research.
The Lilly delegation included Dr. Anna Koroleva, Medical and Cardiometabolic Lead for the Middle East; Tania Tannous, Associate Director for Public and Government Affairs, Value, and Access for the Middle East and North Africa; and Dr. Dianne Dao, Regional Director for Real-World Evidence and Medical Research. They brought extensive pharmaceutical and research expertise to the discussions.
The discussions highlighted the growing public health challenges caused by non-communicable diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Both UOS and Lilly emphasized the importance of evidence-based research to develop effective prevention and treatment strategies aligned with the UAE’s national health priorities.
The collaboration aims to establish a long-term strategic partnership that enhances research capabilities, supports educational exchange, and promotes innovative public health solutions. By combining Lilly’s pharmaceutical expertise with UOS’s academic and research excellence, the partnership seeks to create impactful, community-driven programmes.
Through this partnership, UOS and Lilly will focus on research initiatives addressing pressing health issues. Educational exchanges and training programmes will also be developed, enabling students, researchers, and healthcare professionals to benefit from the combined knowledge and experience of both institutions.
The collaboration is expected to improve health outcomes and quality of life in the UAE by applying cutting-edge research and healthcare strategies. The partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to tackling public health challenges, advancing scientific innovation, and contributing to the well-being of the community.
