US Acknowledges Delhi Blast as Terrorism; Rubio Commends Indian Inquiry

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

New Delhi – The recent car explosion near the historic Red Fort in Delhi has been officially acknowledged by the United States as a terrorist act. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commended India’s “measured, cautious, and professional” response to the situation. This tragic blast resulted in the loss of at least nine lives and raised significant national security alarms across the capital.

In remarks to reporters, Rubio underscored India's adept handling of the investigation, stating, “The Indians deserve recognition for their professionalism and caution in pursuing this case. It was unequivocally a terrorist attack involving a car filled with explosives, devastating many lives.”

While the US has extended offers of support, Rubio acknowledged India's capability to manage investigations on its own, saying, “We are here to assist, but they are certainly equipped to conduct this inquiry effectively.”

Incident Overview

The explosion marked a significant security incident as the first major terror-related event since a deadly shooting in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives in April. Investigations suggest a connection to a gang tied to the Pakistan-based group Jaish-e-Mohammed, with security forces discovering approximately 3,000 kilograms of explosives and numerous assault weapons related to the case.

Home Minister Amit Shah assured the public that those responsible will face justice: “Every individual associated with this act will be pursued vigorously by our agencies,” he stated after crucial security meetings.

Global Reactions and Diplomatic Discussions

During the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Canada, Rubio engaged with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. They expressed condolences for the victims and discussed the implications for bilateral relations and global security matters. Rubio reiterated trust in India’s investigative effort while acknowledging the broader ramifications of the incident.

Earlier this week, Indian authorities definitively categorized the event as a “terrorist incident,” attributing it to anti-national groups. Investigations are ongoing into the wider network involved as security protocols in the capital are ramped up.

The Delhi blast highlights the ongoing threat posed by terrorism in the region. India’s steady and measured response has garnered international approval, reaffirming its dedication to national security and effective law enforcement.
