Fitness Expert Cautions Against Rapid Weight Loss Medications

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

In India, the rising popularity of weight-loss medications, such as Ozempic and Mounjaro, has caught attention. Initially designed for diabetes management, many are now opting for these drugs solely for rapid weight loss. Celebrity fitness expert Yasmin Karachiwala expresses concern over this trend, highlighting its potential dangers.

With a significant number of overweight adults, many seek immediate results, making drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro increasingly prevalent. However, Yasmin, with three decades of experience in fitness, warns that using these medications without a genuine medical need can lead to adverse effects, particularly muscle loss.

She points out that individuals looking to shed just a few kilograms are also resorting to injections, hoping for swift results without altering their routines. According to Yasmin, this approach is unsafe; the body may sacrifice muscle instead of fat. Muscle plays a crucial role in strength, stability, and bone health, and its diminishment can lead to osteoporosis in later years.

Yasmin acknowledges that while these medications can be beneficial for some—particularly those with diabetes or significant obesity who have exhausted other options—their use for mere cosmetic purposes is ill-advised.

Rather than relying on hasty fixes, she advocates for adopting straightforward and wholesome practices. Regular weight training, adequate protein intake, and sufficient hydration are vital steps toward building a healthier body.

Yasmin emphasizes that muscle development requires time and dedication. Quick fat loss might be appealing, but if muscle is lost due to these drugs, it could lead to future health complications.

This message was delivered during the inauguration of her Yasmin Karachiwala Body Image studio in New Delhi. Renowned for training Bollywood stars such as Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif, her priority is clear: health should prevail over the temptation for quick fixes.
