Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed support for the essential “principles” outlined in a revised plan developed by the United States to aid in ending the nearly four-year-long conflict with Russia. During his daily address on Tuesday, Zelensky mentioned that this updated proposal has the potential to pave the way for “deeper agreements” moving forward.
This new version follows substantial criticism directed at the initial plan, which was seen as too accommodating towards Moscow. While the updated details have yet to be publicly released, Ukraine has conducted a review of its key elements. Zelensky underscored that these principles could serve as a foundational basis for serious negotiations, and he looks forward to active participation from Washington and direct involvement from US President Donald Trump.
Stressing the vital role of the United States, Zelensky noted that “much depends on America”, as Russia is closely observing US actions and decisions. On the same day, discussions between US and Russian officials took place in Abu Dhabi, underscoring ongoing diplomatic endeavors.
Earlier, Zelensky communicated to Ukraine’s international allies that the nation is ready to advance based on the “framework” established alongside the US during talks in Geneva. He indicated that while the framework is primed for more detailed negotiation, a few “sensitive issues” still require further dialogue. Moreover, Zelensky expressed his willingness to meet with President Trump to address these matters.
The Ukrainian leader urged European countries to take an active part in the process, asserting that any significant security decisions regarding Europe must involve its leaders. He highlighted the necessity of a collaborative approach among the US, Europe, and Ukraine to achieve a stable and enduring agreement.
The revised plan is anticipated to serve as a roadmap for the upcoming phase of negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict, although it remains uncertain when the complete document will be officially unveiled.
