17-Year-Old Identified as Shooter in Mexican Mayor Carlos Manzo's Death

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

A startling development has emerged as Mexican authorities confirm that 17-year-old Victor Manuel Ubaldo was the shooter responsible for the death of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo during a public Day of the Dead celebration in Michoacan on November 2.

Official reports indicate that forensic evidence has substantiated Ubaldo's role in the attack. This comes after he was shot and killed by security forces who arrived on the scene shortly after the incident. His family subsequently confirmed his identity.

Prosecutor Carlos Torres noted that forensic evaluations, including the sodium rhodizonate test, conclusively demonstrated Ubaldo's involvement in the assassination. “The testing definitively showed that he used the firearm in the shooting,” stated Torres. Additionally, it was revealed that Ubaldo exhibited signs of methamphetamine usage and had been missing from home for a week leading up to the incident.

Authorities believe that other individuals were also involved in planning the shooting, suspected to be linked to organized crime networks in the area. Michoacan has a long-standing history of violence connected to gangs and cartel-related executions aimed at political figures and public servants.

Experts are increasingly concerned that criminal groups in Mexico are recruiting minors from vulnerable backgrounds to perform perilous tasks, including killings. According to a governmental study on cartel recruiting practices, even children as young as six are being drawn into organized crime, often through tactics involving social media and online gaming.

Human rights organizations have raised alarms over the potential exploitation of at-risk youth, estimating that nearly 200,000 minors in Mexico might be susceptible to recruitment by these criminal entities.

The heart-wrenching murder of Mayor Carlos Manzo serves as a stark reminder of the rising violence in drug cartel-dominated areas and the troubling trend of youth engagement in organized crime.
