At the latest MLB awards ceremony in Las Vegas, Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom was honored as the American League Comeback Player of the Year. The 37-year-old athlete, who boasts two Cy Young Awards and a Rookie of the Year title, has added another achievement to his illustrious career.
After missing a significant portion of the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to Tommy John surgery, deGrom made a comeback with three starts in September 2024, fully returning in 2025. In this season, he achieved a 12-8 record with a 2.97 ERA across 30 starts, striking out 185 batters while allowing only 37 walks in 172 2/3 innings, also earning him a fifth All-Star selection.
Ronald Acuna Jr., the standout player from the Atlanta Braves, was awarded the National League Comeback Player of the Year. Acuna, 27, sidelined for most of 2024 due to a torn ACL, returned almost exactly a year later to finish the 2025 season with a .290 batting average, 21 home runs, and 42 RBIs in 95 games. He is the second Braves player in a row to receive this honor, following teammate Chris Sale.
Shohei Ohtani, the recent holder of the National League Most Valuable Player title, secured the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award for the fifth consecutive year. The two-way superstar from the Los Angeles Dodgers posted a .282 batting average, hitting 55 home runs and driving in 102 RBIs, while also leading the league with 380 total bases and a slugging percentage of .622. Furthermore, he clinched the Hank Aaron Award as the best offensive player in the NL for the third straight time.
Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees took home the AL Hank Aaron Award, leading MLB with a .331 batting average, 53 home runs, and 114 RBIs. He also ranked first in on-base percentage (.457), slugging (.688), and OPS (1.144), marking his third win of this prestigious award.
Milwaukee Brewers’ general manager Matt Arnold made history as the first to win the Executive of the Year Award twice, concluding the season with the best MLB record of 97-65. Aroldis Chapman of the Boston Red Sox was honored with the Mariano Rivera Award as the top AL reliever, achieving 32 saves, a 5-3 record, and a 1.17 ERA. Edwin Diaz of the New York Mets received the Trevor Hoffman Award for the NL’s best reliever, amassing 28 saves, a 6-3 record, and a 1.63 ERA.
The 2025 All-MLB First Team features standout figures like Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Jose Ramirez. The Second Team consists of notable players such as Cody Bellinger, Kyle Schwarber, and Edwin Diaz. With four selections each, the Seattle Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies highlighted their impressive seasons and significant contributions.
