Abu Dhabi is set to welcome another spectacular week of elite tennis as defending champion Belinda Bencic and promising Filipino talent Alexandra Eala confirm their participation in the 2026 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open. The WTA 500 event is scheduled to run from January 31 to February 7 at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City.
Ranked World No. 11, Bencic is returning after winning in both 2023 and 2025. Her victory in 2025 was particularly special as she celebrated with her daughter, Bella, in front of a cheering audience. Known for her tactical skill, precise strokes, and versatility on the court, the Swiss ace remains undefeated at the Abu Dhabi Open, making her a key player to follow this year.
“I feel amazing coming back as defending champion,” stated Bencic. “The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open holds a special place in my heart. The atmosphere is always incredible, and the support from the fans makes it even more memorable.”
Joining Bencic is 20-year-old Alexandra Eala, returning after an impressive debut in 2024. Eala has climbed into the Top 50 of the WTA rankings this year, showcasing her talent through a series of strong performances. As a former US Open girls’ singles champion trained at the Rafa Nadal Academy, she is now recognized as Asia’s most promising rising star and the highest-ranked Filipino player in Tour history.
“Playing in Abu Dhabi in 2024 was unforgettable,” Eala remarked. “The support from the fans was inspiring, and I’m excited to come back stronger and compete with the best.”
The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open has quickly gained recognition as a top-tier event, attracting premier players and large, enthusiastic crowds. Following a record-breaking 2025, the 2026 tournament looks forward to another week of thrilling matches, family-friendly entertainment, and vibrant community involvement. Fans can look forward to exhilarating tennis as Bencic defends her title and Eala continues her ascent on the world stage.
