The Emirates Racing Authority has revealed that 48 horses, including purebred Arabians and mixed-breeds, participated in the seventh trial race at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai. This event, covering a distance of 1,000 meters, was held yesterday evening to gauge the horses' readiness ahead of the bustling racing season.
As announced, the trial consisted of seven races—five focused on purebred Arabian horses, with 34 entries, and two featuring 14 mixed-breed horses, offering new competitors a chance to experience the track. This structure aimed to enhance both skill and exposure for these emerging participants.
Specifically, 19 horses raced in three debut trials for purebred Arabians, while two additional races saw 15 experienced competitors aiming to sharpen their skills. This blend of fresh talent and seasoned racers ensured a competitive environment beneficial for all levels of expertise.
Rashid Al Balushi, part of the Emirates Racing Authority’s supervisory committee, emphasized the importance of these weekly trials every Wednesday across different national tracks, which are critical in assessing horses, trainers, and riders. They contribute significantly to safety and fairness in the impending competitions.
He highlighted the trials' consistency as a testament to the Authority's commitment to uphold superior standards in UAE horse racing. Both purebred Arabian and mixed-breed horses are afforded equal preparation opportunities, ultimately elevating performance and enhancing the UAE's stature in the global racing arena.
Al Balushi referred to the previous trial at Jebel Ali Racecourse, which attracted 45 horses across seven races, indicating a growing interest in the UAE racing calendar from owners, trainers, and jockeys.
Meydan Racecourse is recognized globally for its state-of-the-art facilities, promoting safety and comfort for participants and spectators alike. Holding trial races here allows newcomers to acclimatize to international racing conditions.
These trials provide trainers with critical insights into their horses’ performance and health, informing preparations for major upcoming competitions. Many in the racing community utilize these events to identify improvement areas, readying them for higher stakes races.
The Emirates Racing Authority’s structured approach to regular trials reflects its commitment to advancing the professionalism and international image of UAE equestrian sports. Through strategic planning and fair competition, the Authority strives to meet international racing standards at each event.
Each trial further cements the UAE's position as a premier hub for horse racing and breeding, while celebrating the nation’s rich cultural ties to Arabian horses, a longstanding emblem of pride.
As the racing season unfolds, additional trial events will be organized at various key racecourses nationwide—each a testament not only to performance testing but also to the UAE's unwavering dedication to equestrian excellence.
