In an impressive performance, English golfer Aaron Rai secured the title at the 20th Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship 2025, taking place at Yas Links, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan presented the championship trophy to Rai in front of a bustling audience. Rai lit up the leaderboard finishing at 26 under par after a gripping playoff against fellow countryman Tommy Fleetwood, who finished at 25 under par. This victory marks Rai's inaugural win in Abu Dhabi and his second Rolex Series title.
The prestigious tournament hosted 72 elite competitors as part of the Rolex Series in the DP World Tour Finals. Notable performances included Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, the leader in the Race to Dubai, tying at 24 under par. The atmosphere on the final day was electric, particularly at the 18th hole, where Rai claimed his victory.
The event was organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and DP World, concluding with an awards ceremony featuring Major General (Ret.) Abdullah Al Hashemi, Abdulfattah Sharaf from HSBC Middle East, Erik Nicolai from the European Tour Group, and DP World CEO Guy Kinnings. This championship not only showcases but also reinforces Abu Dhabi's capability to host premier sporting events, highlighted by its modern infrastructure and commitment to security and audience engagement.
H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan commended the success of this milestone event, affirming Abu Dhabi’s role as a global sports hub. He underscored the commitment of the leadership in promoting sports, tourism, and fostering values of tolerance and community involvement. The championship has consistently played a role in boosting tourism in Abu Dhabi, attracting visitors from around the world.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, congratulated Rai and acknowledged the seamless execution of the championship. He also appreciated the contributions of sponsors, partners, and volunteers, along with the substantial turnout of fans and global viewership. The council is dedicated to enhancing the golf culture, aiming to draw in younger demographics to the sport across the UAE and beyond.
The prize fund was notably impressive, nearing USD 9 million, with the champion earning USD 1.52 million and 1,500 points, while the second-place winner received USD 980,000 and 1,000 points, and third place gained USD 560,000 and 565 points. This attractive prize structure draws elite golfers from across the globe, accordingly elevating the competition level of the championship.
