Abu Dhabi is all set to host the first edition of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for grappling this Saturday at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City.
The one-day event is being organized by the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) and will bring together hundreds of athletes from 65 academies across 50 countries. Competitors will take part in different age and skill categories, highlighting the sport’s wide appeal.
This tournament is an important part of AJP’s yearly competition schedule and is expected to play a big role in boosting the popularity of combat sports in the region. It brings together fighters with different grappling and ground-fighting styles, showing how welcoming and diverse the UAE’s sports scene is.
The organizers confirmed that official weigh-ins will happen on the same day as the matches, following AJP rules to ensure fair competition and a professional experience for everyone involved.
This event is only open to male athletes, and it includes divisions for juniors, amateurs, professionals, and masters. Participants from any nationality can take part, giving athletes around the world a chance to compete.
Rodrigo Valerio, the Operations Director at AJP, said the event is a great opportunity for athletes to match experience with ambition. He pointed out that the wide variety of participants is helping the sport grow and succeed. He also stressed that AJP is committed to providing a safe and fair competition for all.
Valerio added that this new Grand Prix marks an exciting step forward for AJP’s grappling events. It aims to support new talent and encourage a stronger culture of combat sports in the region.
This tournament shows Abu Dhabi’s ongoing efforts to host world-class sports events and its rising status as a major hub for martial arts and combat sports.
