Afeela EV Makes Waves at CES 2026 as Sony Honda Eyes US Revival

Afeela EV Makes Waves at CES 2026 as Sony Honda Eyes US Revival

Post by : Bianca Haleem

At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Sony Honda Mobility boldly introduced its Afeela electric vehicle prototype, choosing this major tech event despite the current retreat of many US automakers from their EV strategies. With several brands halting launches or scaling back production, this joint venture signals its commitment to the EV market.

The Afeela prototype enhances previous concept designs and emphasizes groundbreaking digital features, connectivity, and entertainment within the vehicle. It showcases Sony’s prowess in software and gaming, combined with Honda’s extensive automotive engineering expertise.

Sony Honda has set the starting price for its inaugural production model, Afeela 1, at $89,900. This premium electric sedan targets consumers who prioritize high-tech features alongside performance. The joint venture aims to make this Afeela model available to US buyers by 2028.

The CES 2026 event highlighted a significant reduction in new EV unveilings compared to previous years, as numerous manufacturers grapple with diminishing demand and elevated costs amidst ongoing tariff issues affecting auto imports. This scenario has led many brands to push back or scrap earlier plans for EV launches.

Changes to US policies, including the elimination of the $7,500 federal tax incentive for electric vehicle buyers, have dampened consumer enthusiasm and slowed sales across the sector.

Founded in 2022, Sony Honda Mobility aims to fuse Honda's manufacturing strengths with Sony's digital capabilities, and by showcasing Afeela at CES, the venture is positioning itself for eventual growth, anticipating a resurgence in demand for technologically advanced electric vehicles as market conditions improve.
