Air India Crash Probe Marks One Year With Key Progress

Post by : Shakul

One year after the devastating crash of Air India Flight AI171 in Ahmedabad, investigators have announced significant progress in uncovering the factors that led to one of India's worst aviation disasters in recent history. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) confirmed that extensive examinations and technical assessments have been conducted over the past year as authorities continue working toward a final conclusion.

Disaster That Shocked The Aviation World

The London-bound Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed just 32 seconds after take-off from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. The accident claimed the lives of 241 of the 242 passengers and crew members onboard, along with 19 people on the ground. The tragedy shocked the aviation industry worldwide and triggered one of the most closely monitored investigations in recent years.

Detailed Examination Of Aircraft Systems

According to the AAIB, investigators have thoroughly examined aircraft systems, flight recorder data, engine-related components, maintenance records, operational procedures, and several other critical factors. Experts from various international aviation organizations have also assisted the investigation to ensure a detailed and evidence-based analysis of every aspect connected to the accident.

Critical Fuel Switch Discovery Remains Under Review

Earlier findings revealed that both engine fuel control switches moved from the "RUN" position to the "CUTOFF" position moments before the crash. While this crucial discovery was highlighted in the preliminary report released last year, investigators have not yet determined what caused the switches to move. Authorities stressed that the investigation remains ongoing and no final conclusions regarding responsibility have been reached.

Scientific Analysis Continues To Uncover Facts

The AAIB emphasized that all available evidence is currently being reviewed through a comprehensive scientific process. Additional technical examinations and specialist evaluations are continuing wherever required to ensure that every finding is supported by verified facts. Officials reiterated that the primary purpose of the investigation is to improve aviation safety and prevent similar tragedies in the future rather than assign blame.

Government Reaffirms Commitment To Transparency

Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu paid tribute to the victims on the first anniversary of the crash and reaffirmed the government's commitment to a transparent investigation. He stated that authorities remain dedicated to identifying the exact causes of the accident while strengthening aviation safety standards across the country.

Sole Survivor Shares Ongoing Struggles

The sole survivor of the crash, Viswashkumar Ramesh, also reflected on the emotional and psychological challenges he continues to face. While expressing gratitude for surviving the disaster, he revealed that the trauma remains a daily struggle, highlighting the lasting human impact of the tragedy. As investigators move closer to completing their work, families of the victims continue to await answers from a probe that could shape future aviation safety measures around the world.
