New Delhi: Akasa Air is gearing up to broaden its international service offerings from Delhi, coupled with plans to hasten aircraft acquisitions from Boeing, as revealed by a senior airline executive.
The airline, which commenced operations in August 2022, currently has a fleet encompassing 30 aircraft, servicing 24 domestic routes and six international destinations.
“We will soon initiate international departures from Delhi,” stated Praveen Iyer, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Akasa Air, during a media briefing in the capital. He highlighted the exploration of overseas pathways to cities such as Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Tashkent.
Thus far, Akasa Air connects to six international locations, including Doha (Qatar), Jeddah and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Kuwait City (Kuwait), and Phuket (Thailand).
The airline operates 24 daily flights from Delhi, with Iyer emphasizing strategic expansion while maintaining optimal load factors and competitive pricing.
Akasa Air has a firm order in place for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft but has encountered some delays in deliveries. With Boeing ramping up production, the airline looks forward to a quicker inflow of aircraft, thus facilitating an expedited growth of its domestic and international routes.
Iyer added, “We are quite pleased with the trajectory of ancillary revenue growth,” underscoring the airline's balance between fares and load factors, paving the way for sustainable development.
Through its ambitious expansion plans and fleet enhancement, Akasa Air is striving to emerge as a formidable player in both domestic and international aviation, strengthening India's reach to worldwide destinations.
