Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and the UAE Media Council, visited the London Design Biennale 2025, where he toured the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi’s pavilion. He also explored the displays set up by other Gulf countries.
During his visit, Al Hamed viewed a special exhibition called “Tides and Traditions: The Journey of Maritime Crafts and Heritage.” This exhibit, organized by the House of Artisans, beautifully showcased the UAE’s seafaring traditions and heritage through creative and interactive art. He was joined by Victoria Broackes, Director of the London Design Biennale, and Salama Nasser Al Shamsi, Director of Cultural and Historic Sites at the Department.
Al Hamed was especially impressed by the interactive experience, which brought the UAE’s traditional maritime crafts to life in a modern and artistic way. He praised how well the exhibition told the story of the UAE to an international audience using the power of art and design.
He said the exhibition showed the UAE’s strong dedication to protecting its heritage, especially the crafts and sea-based traditions that are an important part of Emirati identity. He added that being part of global events like the London Design Biennale helps spread true Emirati culture around the world. It also strengthens the UAE’s role as a bridge between history and innovation.
Al Hamed thanked the Department of Culture and Tourism—Abu Dhabi for their efforts in promoting the UAE’s heritage internationally. He noted that these efforts match the UAE leadership’s vision of making culture a key part of global understanding and dialogue.
He also visited the pavilions of Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar, where he admired the artistic works and cultural displays representing the diverse traditions of the Gulf region.
