A late-season Alberta clipper is on track to bring considerable snowfall and shifting weather patterns to parts of Manitoba. Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings and special weather alerts in anticipation of the storm’s impact.
The storm is expected to start affecting western and central Manitoba late Tuesday, gradually progressing throughout the province into Wednesday and early Thursday. Environment Canada predicts that some regions may receive between 15 and 20 centimeters of snow, especially in central Manitoba. This situation falls under a yellow-level warning, indicating potentially hazardous weather that could disrupt travel and lead to localized issues.
The snowfall warning encompasses a broad area, stretching from northern regions like Dawson Bay to the southern areas, including Winnipeg, as well as across the province from west to east. Towns such as Dauphin and Gimli are also anticipated to be impacted by the storm's path.
Authorities are urging residents to prepare for swiftly changing weather situations, especially on highways and roadways. Snow accumulation could create slippery surfaces, decrease visibility, and make travel challenging. Additionally, there's a chance of minor power outages in specific areas due to the combination of snow and wind.
In conjunction with snowfall warnings, special weather statements have been issued for southern Manitoba, affecting cities like Winnipeg and Brandon. These advisories emphasize the uncertainty surrounding the storm's development—particularly in southern regions—where temperatures are likely to be near freezing. Consequently, some areas, especially adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway, might experience a mix of snow and rain, potentially diminishing overall snowfall totals.
Weather specialists indicate that actual snowfall amounts could vary as the system evolves, with warnings possibly extended further south depending on temperature variations. Residents should remain attentive to forecasts and take necessary precautions when traveling during the upcoming storm.
This late-winter weather event is a reminder that winter conditions can still affect parts of Canada, even with the arrival of spring, calling for ongoing caution and preparedness.
