Aling Aling Waterfall: Cliff Jumps and Natural Slides in Bali

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Set within the verdant forests of northern Bali, Aling Aling Waterfall is a striking natural attraction in Sambangan Village. Its clear cascade and blue plunge pool draw visitors seeking both scenic calm and active pursuits.

A Sambangan Attraction

Located near Singaraja, Aling Aling is part of the cluster often called Bali’s "Secret Garden." The waterfall falls roughly 35 metres into a deep, blue basin, forming a dramatic scene framed by dense jungle.

Rather than only observing from a distance, visitors can take part in the site’s activities. Surrounding cliffs provide marked jumping points at various heights, and trained local guides oversee safe participation for different skill levels.

Cliff Jumps and Natural Slides

Aling Aling is known for its designated cliff-jump platforms, commonly set at about 5, 10 and 15 metres. Jumpers enter cool mountain water beneath a canopy of trees, while gentler options include naturally smoothed rock surfaces that act as water-carved slides.

Many visitors highlight sliding into the pool or taking a modest cliff leap as a standout memory from their Bali itinerary. The location also offers calm spots for swimming and resting after the activities.

Nature, Culture and Respect

Beyond adventure, Aling Aling is valued for its natural beauty and local significance. Residents regard parts of the area as spiritually important and ask guests to behave respectfully. The surrounding rainforest, tropical plants and birdlife make it a popular subject for photographers and nature observers.

Visitors often combine a trip to Aling Aling with nearby falls such as Kroya, Kembar and Pucuk, which are accessible on the same walking trail, creating a compact natural route in northern Bali.

Practical Tips

The site is reachable in about 2.5 hours from Ubud or three hours from Denpasar. Mornings tend to be cooler and less busy. Entry usually involves a small fee and hiring a local guide is advised for safety when jumping or sliding.

Wear comfortable clothing and water shoes, and pack a change of clothes. Rocks can be slippery, so follow guide instructions and posted safety rules to reduce risk.

Accessible Adventure

Aling Aling combines straightforward outdoor thrills with scenic and cultural context. For travellers wanting an active, nature-focused experience away from Bali’s beaches, the waterfall offers a compact, memorable outing.
