Saudi Arabia is on the verge of becoming a significant center for advanced AI computing as leading tech firms AMD, Cisco, along with local startup Humain unveil a collaborative venture to establish high-capacity data centers. The initial project is set to operate at 100 megawatts, primarily serving the Gen AI video startup Luma AI, which has secured the entire initial capacity.
In this partnership, Cisco will provide vital networking and infrastructure solutions, whereas AMD will contribute its state-of-the-art MI450 AI chips. Humain, financed by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, will spearhead the project and oversee all execution. Construction is anticipated to start in 2026 and will operate completely on renewable energy sources.
This collaboration is the result of various tech agreements established during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Riyadh in May, with additional partnerships expected as Saudi and US officials reunite this week. Both AMD and Cisco will play the role of minority stakeholders while sharing in profits and losses, driving technological and sales support.
Humain is aiming to broaden the project’s reach to encompass markets in Asia, Europe, India, the Middle East, and Africa—impacting approximately 4.5 billion people. Plans are already underway to expand the data center's capacity to 1 gigawatt by 2030, with several purchase orders anticipated for future expansions.
This initiative enhances Saudi Arabia's role in the global AI infrastructure landscape, capitalizing on plentiful land, cost-efficient energy, and international collaborations to forge a premier data ecosystem.
