Anupama Parameswaran Initiates Legal Action Against Online Harassment

Post by : Meena Hassan

Actress Anupama Parameswaran has bravely addressed her experience with online harassment, revealing that a 20-year-old girl has circulated false and damaging content about her on social media. The Karthikeya 2 star announced via Instagram that she has filed an official cyber complaint and plans to take strict legal measures against the offender.

In a poignant message on her Instagram account, Anupama recounted the troubling experiences of ongoing cyberbullying she faced.

An Instagram account was actively sharing highly inappropriate and inaccurate content regarding myself, my family, and even tagging friends and co-stars. The posts included altered images and unfounded accusations – witnessing such deliberate online harassment was heart-wrenching,” she disclosed.

Furthermore, she mentioned that the same individual was behind several fake accounts spreading hateful comments and malicious content on her related posts. This relentless online abuse prompted her to reach out to the Cyber Crime Police in Kerala.

Investigation traces back to Tamil Nadu.

According to Anupama, the investigation led to the identification of the perpetrator as a 20-year-old from Tamil Nadu. While she has confirmed that legal actions are in motion, she has chosen to keep the individual’s identity confidential due to her age.

She expressed that this issue extends beyond personal insult but signifies a broader dilemma regarding irresponsible social media conduct. Anupama leveraged her platform to alert the public about the severe repercussions of such acts.

“Having a smartphone or access to social media does not grant anyone the right to harass, defame, or spread negativity against others. Every online action leaves a mark, and accountability is inevitable,” she stated.

Actor warns of severe legal repercussions.

Anupama asserted that public figures are not exempt from harassment or defamation. She highlighted that cyberbullying is subject to legal penalties, urging individuals to recognize the seriousness of their online conduct.

“Being an actor does not erase one’s fundamental rights. Cyberbullying is actionable—accountability is genuine,” she concluded her post.

Her message has garnered significant attention from fans and peers in the industry, who have praised her stance against digital harassment and urged for more responsible online behavior.

A Growing Challenge in the Entertainment Sector

Cases of online abuse targeting celebrities are increasingly prevalent. Many actors from South Indian cinema have spoken out about cyberbullying, trolling, and smear campaigns aimed at them in recent years.

Experts indicate that while social media facilitates more significant engagement between stars and their fans, it has also ushered in anonymity-driven harassment, which can severely impact the emotional and mental well-being of public figures.

Anupama’s Upcoming Projects

Notwithstanding this distressing incident, Anupama remains dedicated to her flourishing film career. In 2025, she is slated to appear in several films across various languages—Dragon and Bison Kaalamaadan in Tamil, Paradha and Kishkindhapuri in Telugu, and JSK: Janaki V v/s State of Kerala and The Pet Detective in Malayalam.

She is set to showcase her talent soon in an upcoming Tamil film titled Lockdown, further establishing her mark as a versatile and promising actress in South Indian cinema.

Anupama Parameswaran’s fight against cyberbullying is a crucial reminder that online abuse has tangible consequences. By taking legal action, she hopes to promote the importance of cyber safety and accountability for everyone, irrespective of their social status.
