Renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has consistently voiced his thoughts on censorship in Indian cinema. However, in a recent discussion with Komal Nahta on his podcast, he revealed a significant shift in his views.
Anurag expressed, “My perspectives on censorship have evolved significantly. When I sought certification for my film from the censor board, I discovered that the situation was not as dire as I had believed. In the past, I had even made posts against censorship, but upon meeting the board members, I found them to be quite courteous. They were amazed that my film lacked violence or explicit language and playfully questioned why I often debate compromises and capitalisation in cinema.”
He elaborated that the board provided insights into their operations. “They kindly mentioned that they are merely adhering to existing rules and guidelines. If any of these regulations require modifications, filmmakers must unite and advocate for change,” he noted.
While Anurag did not disclose the title of the film in question, his latest directorial venture, Nishaanchi, featuring Aaishvary Thackeray, Vedika Pinto, and Monika Panwar, premiered on September 19.
