Renowned composer and singer AR Rahman has recently shared insights into the difficulties he encountered during his childhood. In an honest discussion, he reminisced about the constant trauma he faced while growing up, observing his father's relentless efforts to provide for the family.
Rahman highlighted the financial challenges he faced in establishing his first music studio, crediting his mother for urging him to pursue his passion for music despite their circumstances. After the passing of his father when he was just nine years old, Rahman took on greater responsibilities to assist in supporting the family.
His formative years were predominantly spent immersed in music studios with seasoned musicians, leaving little room for the typical school life or friendships. He shared, “I spent a significant portion of my youth in studios with musicians who were decades my senior. I missed out on enjoying school and cultivating friendships. Though it shaped me, it also led to a lack of normal childhood experiences.”
In a heartfelt reflection, Rahman talked about his father's enduring sacrifices amid financial hardships. “My father worked multiple jobs simultaneously to provide for us, which severely affected his health. We also faced disrespect from relatives, further complicating our lives,” he recounted.
He praised his mother, portraying her as a source of unwavering strength who faced significant trials to care for her children. “My mother was remarkably strong and confident. She absorbed all the hardship and did so much to protect us. She raised us single-handedly,” Rahman expressed.
Reflecting on the lasting impact of his childhood struggles, Rahman said, “The darker aspects of my early years were challenging to overcome. However, they instilled resilience in me and have significantly shaped my outlook on life.”
Currently, AR Rahman is gaining acclaim for his work on Anand L. Rai’s film Tere Ishk Mein, featuring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, which is set to hit theaters on 28 November.
Additionally, he is gearing up for a live concert in Pune at the MCA Stadium on 23 November, with guest appearances from Aamir Khan, Boney Kapoor, Sukhwinder Singh, Chinmayi, and Hariharan.
Fans are eagerly awaiting both the film release and his live performance, celebrating not only his musical talents but also his inspiring journey to global recognition.
