Arizona Wildcats Dominate Northern Arizona with Impressive 84-49 Win

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

In a commanding display, the Arizona Wildcats outclassed Northern Arizona with an 84-49 victory on Tuesday night in Tucson, marking their third consecutive win and maintaining an unblemished record of 3-0. This game not only captivated the crowd but also showcased the team’s collective energy, teamwork, and sharp shooting.

Freshman Dwayne Aristode shined as the game’s standout scorer, netting an impressive 18 points, with 15 of those coming during a second-half surge. He finished the night hitting 6 of 10 shots from the floor, including 6 of 9 from three-point territory. His momentum-boosting performance demonstrated the impact a freshman can have coming off the bench.

Motiejus Krivas also had a noteworthy night, contributing 12 points and securing seven rebounds. His efficiency in the paint was evident as he made 5 of 7 field goals and hit both of his free throws. On the defensive end, he was a wall, registering four blocked shots to thwart Northern Arizona's scoring attempts.

Jaden Bradley added to the scoreboard with 13 points and was active on both ends, contributing three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. His leadership on the court was instrumental in keeping the fast-paced tempo, evidenced during a dominant 22-2 run in the first half that set the tone for Arizona’s offense.

Teamwork was the hallmark of this victory, with the Wildcats tallying 22 assists on 28 field goals, reflecting their commitment to sharing. Their defensive tenacity also forced 17 turnovers from the Lumberjacks, converting them into 25 points, underscoring the discipline and coordination that defined this win.

After a brief challenge early on, Arizona quickly established dominance with a significant 15-2 run, with Bradley and Krivas sparking the offense and paving the way for a commanding halftime lead of 43-13.

In the second half, Krivas maintained his strong performance while Aristode capitalized on his scoring opportunities, sinking five three-pointers in the final ten minutes as the crowd rallied behind him. His shooting prowess left no room for a Northern Arizona comeback.

Tobe Awaka was also instrumental in the victory, contributing 10 points and nearly a double-double with nine rebounds. Koa Peat added another 10 points and seven rebounds, further showcasing Arizona’s depth. Even without scoring, freshman Ivan Kharchenkov made his mark with three steals, demonstrating the team’s strong defensive effort.

Conversely, Northern Arizona struggled significantly, shooting only 32.3% overall and 25% from beyond the arc. Traivar Jackson emerged as the top scorer for the Lumberjacks with 10 points, but the team was unable to regroup after Arizona’s explosive runs.

This game highlighted the Wildcats’ depth and strength. Even during player rotations, the bench rose to the occasion. Freshman Aristode's contributions signal a bright future for the team. Their relentless intensity over 40 minutes exemplifies solid coaching and good team dynamics. Arizona also asserted dominance on the boards with a 45-32 advantage, showcasing their strategic superiority.

With the win, Arizona solidifies its place as one of college basketball's elite teams. As they prepare for their next matches, the Wildcats aim to keep their winning streak alive, blending experience with youthful talent and establishing their confidence as potential championship contenders this season.
