During his session at the FICCI Young Leaders Summit in Mumbai, actor Arjun Kapoor candidly discussed his mental health journey, his fight against obesity, and the challenges of sudden fame. He highlighted the importance of destigmatizing therapy and celebrating vulnerability as a strength.
Arjun Reflects on His Toughest Times
Arjun mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic marked a pivotal moment in his life, revealing how he had overlooked his mental and physical health for a decade. “I started therapy after realizing the neglect I subjected myself to for ten years,” he remarked.
In recalling his personal losses, Arjun spoke about the emotional toll of losing his mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, in 2012, just days before his debut film, Ishaqzaade, premiered. “I was grieving and celebrating simultaneously. I became famous overnight, yet I was merely escaping my sorrow,” he stated.
His Obesity Battle
Additionally, Arjun shared his extensive fitness journey, noting, “It took four years to shed 50 kilos. It was a mental struggle as much as a physical one.” He acknowledged his late mother as his cornerstone of emotional support. “Losing your backbone at 25 changes everything. What more can the world throw at you?” he expressed.
Promoting Therapy and Emotional Resilience
Encouraging young individuals to focus on mental wellness, Arjun urged them to approach therapy with openness. “Being vulnerable is not a weakness; true strength lies in accepting your emotions,” he remarked. He described therapy as a “valuable space for expression that enables personal empowerment.”
As he concluded, Arjun urged everyone to “wear their emotions proudly” and view vulnerability as a form of bravery. “You can express feelings and still possess strength,” he wrapped up.
Arjun Kapoor recently featured in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, which earned approximately ₹6.75 crore globally. He is set to appear next in No Entry 2.
